Ethiopian parliament appoints new FM, defense minister

ADDIS ABABA, April 18 (Xinhua) — The Ethiopian House of Peoples’ Representatives (HoPR), the Ethiopian parliament’s lower house, on Thursday approved the appointments of new foreign affairs minister and defense minister.

Gedu Andargachew, former president of Ethiopia’s second largest Amhara regional state, was appointed as the new foreign minister, while Lemma Megersa, president of Oromia regional state, was appointed as the new defense minister.

The parliament approved the appointment of the incoming ministers based on the recommendation of the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
